with Salma Zulfiqar
Sunday, May 21 * 14h-16h * 35€
Come and spend an afternoon outdoors with us making mandalas! This workshop is for anyone, whether you are an artist or not, who is interested in a creative experience to compliment your yoga and other wellness habits. Studies have shown that just "45 minutes of creative activity significantly lessens stress in the body, regardless of artistic experience or talent" (Huffington Post).
The workshop will include:
- An introduction of how and why art can help relieve stress.
- Create you own colour board with your favourite colours on paper and discuss the meaning of colours and how they affect our moods.
- Introduction to Mandalas (example pictured)
A mandala is a complex abstract design that is usually circular in form. In fact, "mandala" is a Sanskrit word that means "circle". Mandalas generally have one identifiable center point, from which emanates an array of symbols, shapes and forms.
Mandalas can contain both geometric and organic forms. They can also contain recognizable images that carry meaning for the person who is creating it.
In essence, mandalas represent the connection between our inner worlds and outer reality. Designing your own mandalas can be both inspirational and therapeutic.
Under the instructor's guidance you will be given examples of Mandalas to copy and draw and then paint or colour them using acrylic paints, coloured pencils, or paint pencils.
WHAT TO BRING
- A hard surface to use for mandala drawing (i.e. notebook, clipboard, book, etc)
- Something to sit on if you are not comfortable in the grass (i.e. camping chair, stool, towel, mat, etc)
- Ruler and compass
All other art materials are included in the workshop price, and will be provided by the instructor such as the card for drawing the mandalas, paper to create the mood board, pencils and paint, paper plates for mixing paint, brushes, and colouring pencils.
